Adobe Lightroom

Adobe released it’s first version of Lightroom today. Hope someone will let me cough up the $199 to buy it. I’ve been enjoying the beta version for the last month or so. I think this is a major step up in my photography tool kit. See if she cuts me loose with the credit card.

IBS

Most of us suffer from it, most try to cure themselves from it, but few succeed in beating the problem. It’s something that can be left unchecked for weeks or even months. The symptoms include guilt, anxiety, loss of productivity, and can even cause relationship strain. It’s known as IBS, or Infrequent Blogging Syndrome.
I suffer from it, most of the bloggers I follow suffer from it, and yet, very few of us do anything about it. I’m not going to try and cure myself, but at least recognize that I have a problem (step 1, right?).
IBS is often caused by lack of exciting events in one’s life. Day after day we experience many things that are noteworthy, but in our hustle and bustle of everyday life we don’t take the time to share them. Most things we do are things we’ve done many times before and don’t take interest in them, others are so small that blogging is not worth the effort.
I’ve spent much time of late just enjoying the things that happen every day. Going to work (OK, not a ton of enjoyment there, but it’s not bad), spending time with family, photography (love that the weekly photo contest is back), and trying to get into the kitchen more often (dinner last night was very tasty, recipe to follow). Those are all things that I don’t think day to day deserve my time at the ol’ keyboard to blog, but I’m sure peeps out there care to hear.
With all of that, I’m not going to go into a long rant on all of the things that have been going on, but I’ll try harder to drop a line or two more frequently to check in on day to day life.
So, for now, it’s back to the kids and the Misses, my camera, and my favorite new kitchen gadget (new espresso maker, gotta love coffee).

Ah, This Is The Life

I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow. I discovered today that staying home and doing absolutely nothing is just the way to go. My wonderful wife has been taking very good care of me. She bought me this really cool espresso maker for my birthday, and I’ve already put it to good use. My very thoughtful kids got me presents that they picked out all by themselves. It’s just been too much fun. Now, I’m sitting on the couch, catching up on my feeds, checking all of the new posts to the photo group, and thinking about the incredible meal I will be dining on tonight. It’s just been a great birthday, even if I am getting old.

So far I don’t feel too much older. Maybe it’s because I’ve come to terms with the fact that youth is behind me. I’m not quite as quick on the basketball court as I used to be, have a few extra pounds around the middle, and a few less hairs on the top of my head. Even with that I’m quite enjoying this time in my life. I have a wonderful wife, 2 great kids, a satisfying job, and many fun things to keep me busy. I’m looking forward to the next few years and am not dreading getting any older. Rachel will be heading out to school, Andrew will be driving and going out on dates before I know it, there should be another puppy running around in the back yard… the list goes on and on.

So, here’s to the first 29 and looking forward to many more to come.

Sincerely,

Old Man Phil

Weekly Photo Contest is Back

It’s been a while since we stopped running the weekly photo contest. It’s a great exercise in getting everyone out and taking different kinds of photos. I’m glad to have it back as I’ve missed the group of people. We’ve picked up a number of new peeps to the group and I can’t wait to see what everyone puts out. Here’s the link to the group so you can follow along, or participate if you wish.

This week’s theme was fresh. Here’s my post.
